Bailieborough church and Graveyard, Co Cavan

The ruins of the old Church of Ireland church, set at the highest point of the town, is close to the current Church of Ireland church which replaced it in 1835.

The date of the construction of the old church is unknown, though may be around the time of the foundation of Bailieborough in the 17th century. The graveyard it stands in is the resting place of many of the town’s illustrious residents including the ancestors of the famous novelist Henry James.

The Community Group-Bailieborough Heritage Society

Bailieborough Heritage Society is keen to preserve the site, conserve the church ruins, tell the stories of those interred there and make the graveyard a safe place to explore.
